Now that the city sightseeing is over, let’s visit Spreewald to learn a bit of German under the shade of trees.
The river Spree spreads branches out towards the south, creating a beautiful water paradise about 100 kilometers from the capital city. At some places it was even extended artifically to complete the picture.
More than 400 lovely river routes await the visitor, where historical local villages, meadows, windmills and wooden bridges are all part of the local sights.
It’s an excellent pastime activity to sail through the narrow waterways in a boat with a local guide to really take in the views. 🛶
Don’t be surprised if a postal boat comes your way, since these waterways are commonly used transportation routes by the locals. Most houses in the area have boathouses or piers as well.
Due to its unique nature, Spreewald has been declared a reserve as part of the UNESCO Biosphere.
Don’t miss experiencing the famous spreewald pickle if you’re around. Its exact recipe is the treasure of the locals! 🥒
We cannot wait!
